A Good Sunday

A good Sunday starts with fresh baking banana bread in the oven, brunch with friends and mimosas, followed by an afternoon cookout that lasts into the evening, and is topped off with a classic film. A good ending to the last weekend of summer. I hope you had a nice one, too.

Best banana bread recipe I've come across so far:

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 1/3 cups mashed overripe bananas

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Stir in eggs and mashed bananas until well blended. Stir banana mixture into flour mixture; stir just to moisten. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
  3. Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 65 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack.

Hello Fall

It's a cool, rainy Saturday morning here, and it's got me so excited for the upcoming change in seasons. I'd love to wear all of these items from Santoki Vintage.

i love all things peter pan - the book is one of my favorites - so i am absolutely loving the idea of this peter pan-themed party over at black*eiffel.

I would've loved to have had this adorable tote to take along to the farmer's markets all summer long.

The Most Wonderful Time

It's my third favorite national holiday (behind Christmas and Halloween)....

J.Crew Fall Collection Time!!

That oh so special time of year when I know the sweaty, I-can-barely-breathe-it's-so-hot-days are limited in number and soon I'll be able to pull on a sweater, a jacket, layer up with dresses and skirts and tights - Oh My! Today as I wandered through the store, running my hands over the perfect tees, stretch knits, and cashmere cardigans, I could barely contain myself. I left with these pants, but I'll be back for more. A teacher needs her fall wardrobe, after all.

What I'm coveting right now:

these tights (I'm just going to have to get them)

these "toothpick" cords

The outfit I could wear every day and not get sick of:

Bring on the cooler weather!

Back to School, Part 2

In case you haven't noticed, I've got back-to-school on the brain.

Have a Wonderful Weekend

I took this photo on my camera phone last night of the Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC in Saratoga Springs. We laid out ample picnic blankets, pillows, and had a perfectly wonderful dinner consisting of wine, cheeses, olives, and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Does it get any better?

I hope you have a truly wonderful weekend.

Some Exciting News...

I've opened up an online shop where I'm selling a few of my photographs as prints. Right now photos are available as 5x7 or 8x10, but other sizes can be arranged if you're interested. I'll be updating the shop periodically, right now it's filled with summery goodness. Stop by!

Back to School

It's coming on that time of year again - just a couple more weeks until school begins again. I've always loved back-to-school for all of the freshly sharpened pencils, brand new notebooks, crisp new clothes, and that hint in the air that fall is just around the corner. Since I work in a school, I get to indulge every year when September rolls around. I'm loving these adorable items from the vintage Etsy shop, trampoline (originally seen on cup of joe).

When I was at the Museum of Modern Art last week, I got to see all of these photographs (and many more) on exhibit from the great photographer, Richard Avedon. So many unforgettable images of some of the greatest icons of our time.
