Winter Decorating

I'm kinda sorta feeling really inspired to make this beautiful pine cone garland to hang through the winter.

This door hanging also looks lovely and relatively easy to make.

Adventures in Knitting

Book: Knitting New Mittens and Gloves

So I'm heading to my first knitting class tonight - lately I've become determined to learn how to really knit, read patterns and actually be able to follow them. I've had the idea in the back of my mind for a while, thinking, "Oh, I wish I knew how to knit and make little things out of yarn. That would be nice." But now that the weather has gotten really cold, I've decided that I AM going to learn. The biggest thing on my to-learn list: mittens and wristwarmers. While I was visiting Salem, MA a week or so before Halloween, I stopped into the lovely
Seed Stitch Fine Yarn Store and just fell in love. While I was there, I came across this book, which has been providing me with endless inspiration for good things to make. I can't wait to get started! ... One of my favorite things about this book is, of course, the beautiful photography by Tyllie Barbosa. You can check out some of her work here. Enjoy!

Event: Tight Knit

I'm really excited for the upcoming Tight Knit craft/handmade/artists' event to be held in Troy on November 28th and 29th. According to the website, "Tight Knit is an indie event for artists and artisans working in all mediums: Fine art, Zines and all manner of Craft! An event to showcase jewelry, clothing, housewares, embroidery, canvas work, collage, sculpture, cartoonists, and every other kind of 'handmade' good by independent artists."

"
Tight Knit will be a bi-annual event, presented in the Winter and Summer seasons in the city of Troy, New York. The inaugural event will kick off Friday, November 28, 2008 in conjunction with Troy Night Out, and continue Saturday, November 29, 2008 in conjunction with the Troy Farmer's Market."

Awesome!

What's on my Christmas List

i'm trying to keep my christmas list to a minimum this year. last year things got way out of hand and i felt a bit disillusioned when it was all over with. so, this time 'round im keeping it simple - just a few, lovely things to make me smile. i'm all moved in to a new place, which is quite small, so the last thing i need is more "stuff" lying around. i'm finding that this year, i'm drawn to gifts that provide me with inspiration...

Book: The Gentle Art of Domesticity, by Jane Brocket of yarnstorm.
Read a lovely review of the book here.
